Wadden Sea and islands
The Wadden Sea is the largest tidal flats system in the world. It extends along the coasts of Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. It has a unique geological and ecological value and is therefore listed by UNESCO as World Heritage. The dynamic landscape is largely undisturbed and home to a great diversity of habitats, shaped by wind and tides. Flora and fauna in and around the Wadden Sea are adapted to their environment changing twice a day, from extensive mud flats to a world of water. The complex system of habitats accommodates a high diversity and high number (over 10,000 species) of flora and fauna. It makes the Wadden Sea a truly unique place.
