This tour begins in Amsterdam, where your comfortable car and driver will pick you up. You will head north towards the picturesque fishing village of Volendam.
Volendam
As you arrive in Volendam, you’ll immediately notice the charming houses with their colorful facades, traditional architecture, and scenic harbor. This village has retained its authentic feel and is known as one of the most touristic but also most loved villages in the Netherlands. You’ll have the opportunity to explore Volendam’s narrow streets and soak up the atmosphere as you wander through the village. There are numerous souvenir shops selling traditional Dutch products, including the iconic wooden clogs. Don’t forget to try the delicious local seafood, especially fresh herring, which is a local delicacy.
From Volendam, you’ll continue your tour with a short ferry ride over the IJsselmeer, a large lake in the Netherlands. The ferry will take you to the island village of Marken, known for its unique wooden houses and traditional clothing. Marken has a long history of fishing and sea trade, and you can still see remnants of this maritime past throughout the village.

During your visit to Marken, you can explore the narrow streets, admire the traditional wooden houses built on stilts, and visit the local museum to learn more about the village’s history. You may also have the chance to see local artisans demonstrating traditional crafts, such as making wooden shoes or lace.
After immersing yourself in the charms of Marken, you’ll return to your car and make your way back to Amsterdam, ending your day tour. The entire experience typically lasts around half a day, providing you with a taste of Dutch countryside life and a break from the bustling city.
