Eindhoven
The city of Eindhoven is the Netherlands’ pride when it comes to innovation, technology, and design. The city owes its status largely to a decision of Gerard Philips, founder of electronics giant Philips. In 1891 he chose Eindhoven as the location of his light bulb factory, mainly because of the availability of cheap labor. Virtually everything that happened in Eindhoven after that was a consequence of that decision. Philips’ production of the light bulb, radio, television, and its invention of the cassette recorder and the compact disc, put Eindhoven on the map. It transformed the city into a vibrant and innovative tech hub.
Nowadays, industrial heritage such as old factories and power stations have turned into trendy shops, restaurants, and creative workplaces. It gives Eindhoven and exciting energy and makes it a popular student city with a lively vibe.
